LEGOLAND California Resort to Unveil Space-Themed Land Early Next Year
Currently under construction, the cosmic area in Carlsbad will feature the first new roller coaster to open at the park in more than 20 years.
A massive space-themed expansion to Carlsbad-based LEGOLAND California Resort is set to open in just a number of months, anchored by what officials say will be the most technologically advanced attraction the resort has ever built.
The land, currently under construction across from the newly opened Driving Schools attraction in Fun Town, is being created by Merlin Magic Making’s global design team and will be included with general admission and all annual passes. The name of the new area has not yet been revealed, and its launch date is set for sometime in early 2026, park officials said in a statement this morning.
A fully immersive indoor roller coaster designed in collaboration with the LEGO Group will take off from LEGOLAND’s Spaceport 886, a nod to the original LEGO Space Buggy set #886, and mark the first new roller coaster to open at the park in more than 20 years. It’s part of a $90 million investment across LEGOLAND California and LEGOLAND Florida, making it the largest in-park expansion in the brand’s history.
In addition to the indoor coaster, the space-themed area will include two additional rides, a toddler-friendly “Junior Astronaut Training Zone,” and a themed restaurant and retail shop with cosmic-inspired food, drinks, and souvenirs. “This isn’t just about a new innovative coaster,” said Flora Liu, Senior Project Manager of Merlin Magic Making. “It’s about creating an entire universe for our guests to explore, where the boundless creativity of LEGO meets the wonders of space.
The storyline invites families to journey into a LEGO galaxy where time-traveling passengers from the past, present, and future explore space together. In addition to the land’s name, specific ride names will be announced at a later date.
The park is encouraging families to grab an Annual Pass now to take part in seasonal events like the Halloween Brick-or-Treat Monster Party and Holidays at LEGOLAND, and to be among the first to access the new land when it opens in 2026. The new attraction also coincides with the final run of the Nike and LEGO Play Arena, which closes August 10, and the return of the LEGO World Parade during this summer’s Block Party celebration.
