Five Dead After Multi-Vehicle Crash in Poway Sparks Brush Fire
A total of three vehicles were involved in the collision, authorities say.
Five people are dead after a crash in Poway this afternoon that ignited a half-acre brush fire.
Deputies responded just after 12:30 p.m. to reports of a serious injury collision on State Route 67 north of Iron Mountain Drive. First responders located three involved vehicles at the scene, one of which was sent into a ravine and sparked a brush fire. “EMS personnel along with air support were able to extinguish the fire preventing any threats to structures. Upon further investigation, deputies discovered five deceased passengers from the involved vehicles,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
“The Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team responded and assisted with the investigation,” the department added. Deputies collected video footage which will be used to assist with determining the cause of the crash.
